Caves and Shrines
Kuumbi, Machaga, and Mwanampambe caverns are located in the villages of Jambiani, Pete, and Makunduchi on Unguja Island’s southern coast. This excursion should take the entire day, but you can mix it up with additional things if you choose.
Bones, stone tools, ceramics, and a variety of other cultural items have been discovered in these caverns. There have been cultural discoveries dating back to 10,000 BC or earlier. The caves of Zanzibar not only contain neolithic artifacts, but some of them also include artifacts dating back to almost 30,000 years ago.
The caverns of Zanzibar are richly ornamented with lime stone formations. Bats, freshwater birds, and tropical birds make up a substantial part of the animal life.
