Zanzibar Butterfly Center
The Zanzibar Butterfly Centre (ZBC) is an interactive butterfly exhibit on Unguja Island near Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, but beyond the park’s boundaries. The display features a netted tropical garden with hundreds of butterflies, all of which are Zanzibar native species. The enclosure is one of Africa’s largest butterfly exhibits, offering Zanzibar residents and visitors an interactive and visual setting in which to learn about butterflies. At ZBC, visitors may see butterflies feeding and flying up close, as well as observe the entire life cycle of numerous species. People from the villages surrounding Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park responsibly farm the butterflies (in pupae phase). On your arrival, our cheerful and educated tour guides will greet you and explain the project’s history as well as the butterfly life cycle and ecology. Tours typically run 30-40 minutes, although they can be tailored to the needs of the visitor.
